Las Vegas part I

When the grandkids turn 12 my Mom and Dad take them on a little trip. So it was Tyler's turn this year and they have been planning this since before they left on their mission. The plan was to go to Las Vegas and play. My Mom told Tyler that he could bring along and friend so guess what friend he asked to bring? ME! I was so excited. A few days before we left Tyler said to me, " Mom, do you want to go on a date with me? I thought we would go to Vegas and see Mystere, & go out to a buffet for dinner". What a charmer.
We stayed at Treasure Island on the 24th floor. We ate at their buffet on the first night and they had a great dessert bar with a fountain of mini raised donuts and even served cotton candy, it was so much fun. That night after dinner we had tickets to go see Mystere. WOW, was that amazing, I can't believe what those people can do and how strong they must be. By the end of the show I had chewed my cheek sore because I was so nervous for them being up so high. Very entertaining!

The next morning we got up and went to the Las Vegas Temple to do baptisms for the dead. What a neat and special experience. Tyler was able to be baptized for 33 of our relatives and I was able to do 1 family name and 10 0ther names. Dad was able to do the baptizing and confirming both. I'm so proud of Tyler for being able to do this great blessing. He even said that is was even more amazing than Mystere.

Kaitlin did such a good job on her Science Fair project. She chose to see what crystals grow the biggest on a sponge. She made solutions of Sugar, Alum, Salt & Vinegar, and Borax. The borax one grew the quickest and the Salt & Vinegar ones grew the largest and best on the sponge.

Flashback Tyler

Isn't he the cutest? It makes we want to just squeeze him.

Kaitlins Clogging Competition

We went down to St. George this past weekend for Kaitlin's Clogging Competition. She did such a great job! Last year she hardly smiled at all because she was concentrating so hard. But this year she was all smiles. Her team ended up taking first in both of their dances and also won the team trophy

Beat to a different drum.

The kids had a blast learning how to play these bongo drums. After a few pointers it sounded really neat to listen to them.

Indian Cuisine

For family night tonight, we had the pleasure of going to our friends Sanjay, Carol, & Olympia’s house for dinner. Sanjay is from India so he made us an authentic Indian dinner. It was absolutely delightful. We had curry chicken with rice, yogurt salad, curry shrimp, & Sanjay's Salad. They taught us how to eat with our hands, the kids had a blast. Kaitlin’s place mat was a disaster by the time she finished, but she had fun. I forgot to take a picture of the drink that they served. It was a lime drink with cilantro & some other spices. It was delicious. Then we had a rice type pudding for dessert with cloves, cardimum, apricots and fresh coconut. Soooooo yummy! They were wonderful hosts and we look forward to doing it again.

Ready for Spring

I'm so ready for spring. Don't get me wrong I'm very greatful for the snow, but I love Spring. I love hearing the birds and seeing all the beautiful flowers. I thought that I would add this adorable picture of Kaitlin when she was four posing for pictures by the flowers.

Herpetologist?

Tyler had his career day this Friday and he decided that when he grows up that he wants to be a HERPETOLOGIST. A herpetologist is a person who studies reptiles and amphibians. This doesn't surprise me, the crocodile hunter was his hero since he was very little.

The Aronic Priesthood

I’m So proud of Tyler for being worthy to receive the Aronic Priesthood. I know that this was a big day for him and that he feels the responsibility of this blessing.

Tyler's Birthday Party

For Tyler’s birthday this year we changed things up a bit. Instead of going out to eat for dinner Tyler decided to go out for breakfast. We went to Denny’s at 6 am. Grandpa and Grandma Marchant met us there.

Later that evening We had yummy lemon and cherry frosted cupcakes. Tyler got a sleeping bag, binoculars, a movie, and a new suit and church clothes to pass the sacrament in.

The kids had a blast playing this Jellie Bellie game at Tyler’s party. I was a game of luck. Would the black one you picked be licorice or skunk. Would the brown one be chocolate pudding or dog food.

February date with Tyler

For my date with Tyler this month, he decided that we should go to the pet store and he would be my guide. He did a very good job telling me about all of the animals there. He was a gentleman and did not get distracted with his friends that were there . We had a great time.

Tyler's a chick magnet

Blaze

Tyler is my animal boy. We have a new pet store in town and Tyler spends his days there volunteering. He cleans out cages and whatever needs to be done. Well he earned enough money working at CBS to buy this corn snake. It is an albino cornsnake and Tyler named it Blaze.

Date to Parowan with Derick

I'm taking my sisters idea and having my boys plan and ask me on a date once a month. So we started this month. Dericks date idea was to go practice driving somewhere. I suggested that we take a drive and go to Parowan. Derick said ok as long as I talk him through everything like Dad does. As we are getting closer to getting on the freeway Derick says, “Mom, hurry and say a prayer !” So I pray for our safety and off we go. He got up to 75 miles and hour and that was as fast as he would go. He did a great job. We made it to the Dairy Freeze in Parowan and got an ice cream and english chips. Derick had to call Dad to let him know that we made it there o.k. We had a great date and made it home safely.

Kaitlin is now in the double digits

This is going to be a big year for Kaitlin. Finally reaching the DOUBLE DIGITS, the big "10". Kaitlin and I enjoy watching Project Runway together and Kaitlin got a sewing machine and some design activities for Christmas so we thought that it would be fun to do a "project-runway" party.
The party was a blast and REAL NOISY. We split the girls into 4 teams and let them pick a color of tissue paper and a couple rolls of tape to use to design an evening gown for the runway. Thank goodness Kaitlin invited two of my friends from work, Genevieve & Angie, to the party so that they could help with the designs. I switched from Kaitlin's team to Alexis' team to help them out. I'd have to say that Genevieve and her model Abby won this challenge.
Genevieve made Kaitlin a three tiered birthday cake which was one of the most delicious cakes I have ever had. All the girls tongues and lips turned blue from the frosting.

Tyler's Angel Kisses

We were sitting in church a little while ago when I noticed these cute little freckles on Tyler's ears. There are four perfectly spaced "angel kisses". I think that they are pretty cute .

Well Done

We were able to go to Leamington this weekend to listen to my parents report on their mission in Cleveland, OH. What a wonderful sacrament meeting that was. My parents are such awesome examples to me and my family but not only us, they were AWESOME examples to those who they were around on their mission. I look forward to there next mission. Well done, Mom & Dad, well done.

Rookie Behind the Wheel

Buckle up everyone! Derick has his learners permit and is now wanting to drive everywhere. I can't believe I'm old enough to have a child driving. It will be nice though when he has his license and is able to run all my errands for me.

My Goals for 2010

I usually don't do much with new year resolutions each year. But this year has been a little different. I started thinking about things that I wanted to be doing different quite a while before the year ended. I want to know that I've done everything I can so that my children make good choices. My kids are wonderful, don't get me wrong, but times are getting tougher. I also want to become healthier. I worked on that quite a bit last year but now it's time to step it up a little and work on my body more. I'm starting out very slowly so in hopes that I don't get too discouraged. Hopefully the saying "slow and steady wins the race" works for me.

Tyler's turn at acupuncture

Carol came over to put some needles in Kirk and while she was waiting to take them out, gave curious Tyler a little lesson on how it works. he said that she could put one in him if he could put one in her first. Carol taught him how to do it and he did it perfectly. Then it was his turn and he was a pro. He has gone with Kirk two times now for help with stress & anxiety.

My Favorite things of Christmas time

One of the best parts about Christmas time is getting all of our decorations out I have decided to write about some of my favorites.
My Grandma Evers is such a talented lady and has made me several Christmas decorations that I will always cherish. This advent calendar is probably my favorite. You turn each square around every day until Christmas to reveal a hand made picture. Each of the kids have one with their name on it.I love our Christmas tree. We have had the same decorations since we first were married and just add to it every year. We have a Snowman theme which works great with all of the kids homemade ornaments. We get the kids a new ornament every year so that by the time they have their own Christmas tree the will have a good start with ornaments. The cranberries and popcorn garland remind me of growing up and stringing the rea lthing. Of course no snoman is complete without the stovepipe hat. We have angel wings and angels on the tree to remember Nichole & Michele.Of course Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without our Savior Jesus Christ. These are two of my favorite pieces to put out each year

Quick Trip to Denver

We made a quick trip to Denver to go support My Aunt Terri at Uncle Darrel's funeral. We had a great time seeing family. I was able to see my Cousin Sara which was the first time in about 12 years. This was the first time that My Grandma and Grandpa were able to meet Brett & Andrea's little boy Jaron. My Grandma found out recently that she has cancer, so we were grateful to be able to see her and are praying that her treatments go good. She is such a strong person and has a great attitude about everything. They have moved into a smaller place so we were able to their new home. It will be good to make some new memories there. My parents received permission from their mission president to go to the funeral so it was good to be able to see them too. Only just over a month before they will be coming home from their mission. The drive there and back was great we had such a good time as brothers and sisters visiting and laughing and getting lost, we always managed to find our way around and make it to where we needed to be though. We had to cut the trip a day short due to snow coming in. Wished we could have stayed a day longer, but it was good to make it home safe.

Kaitlin in charge of the Calendar.

I told Kaitlin that she could do the calendar this month. I didn’t notice how she did it until a few days later. Problem one is that she started on Sunday and just filled in the numbers. December 1, was actually on a Tuesday. She did a good job on most of the events being on the right dates, just not the right day. Notice when December ends and January begins, She skipped two days, to write in January. I just had to take a picture of it because it made me laugh.
