Quick Trip to Denver

We made a quick trip to Denver to go support My Aunt Terri at Uncle Darrel's funeral. We had a great time seeing family. I was able to see my Cousin Sara which was the first time in about 12 years. This was the first time that My Grandma and Grandpa were able to meet Brett & Andrea's little boy Jaron. My Grandma found out recently that she has cancer, so we were grateful to be able to see her and are praying that her treatments go good. She is such a strong person and has a great attitude about everything. They have moved into a smaller place so we were able to their new home. It will be good to make some new memories there. My parents received permission from their mission president to go to the funeral so it was good to be able to see them too. Only just over a month before they will be coming home from their mission. The drive there and back was great we had such a good time as brothers and sisters visiting and laughing and getting lost, we always managed to find our way around and make it to where we needed to be though. We had to cut the trip a day short due to snow coming in. Wished we could have stayed a day longer, but it was good to make it home safe.

Kaitlin in charge of the Calendar.

I told Kaitlin that she could do the calendar this month. I didn’t notice how she did it until a few days later. Problem one is that she started on Sunday and just filled in the numbers. December 1, was actually on a Tuesday. She did a good job on most of the events being on the right dates, just not the right day. Notice when December ends and January begins, She skipped two days, to write in January. I just had to take a picture of it because it made me laugh.

Mowing in the SNOW!

Kirk blew out all of the gutters and started mowing the lawn when it started to snow. I just had to snap this picture, even though you can't really see the snow, because it looked quite funny. Hopefully we won't have to take the mower out again until spring.

Deck the Halls....

Decorating the tree is always exciting. The kids sort all of their ornaments that they have made or collected throughout the years. We always get a new ornament every year so hopefully by the time the kids get married and have their own Christmas tree, they will have a good collection. I always enjoy opening all of the boxes and remembering the memories of each decoration. I have several decorations that my Grandma Evers has made for us and they are such beautiful treasures that I will always love.We also put our lights up on the outside. Tyler climbed up on the roof with his cousins to get the lights up. Tyler broke the cardinal rule of putting up lights and didn't plug them in first to see if they worked or not. So after a couple hours of putting them up and turning them on......only one strand worked. Oh well, they might just end up staying like that this year.

Thanksgiving 2009

We had a great Thanksgiving Day this year. It was just Kirk's parents, Chad, Dana & Keller, Doug and us. So it was pretty calm. We had a wonderful dinner with all the trimmings. I made pumpkin, pecan and a cream pie. Which was the first time ever making pumpkin and pecan on my own without help from my Mom. They turned out quite good if I say so myself. And then I made a scrumptious Sweet Potato Casserole which is my Grandma Evers recipe. After dinner we just came home, relaxed and watched a movie. Then we went back to Kirk's parents for leftovers and pies.

Kirk's On Pins and Needles

Kirk has been going to an acupuncturist here in Cedar for the past month to see if he can get any relief from his headaches. She has been great! He has seen quite a difference in how he has been feeling. She also has put some needles in me the times that I can go with Kirk and it's not bad at all! I was surprised had how little you feel anything. We are praying that this will help Kirk have some relief. By the time she gets the needles in him, he is usually snoring away.

Giant Cupcake

Yummy Breadsticks

For achievement days the girls made breadsticks. There were two different flavors, Parmesan cheese and Cinnamon & Sugar. They were Delicious! This is one of my favorite recipes because they are super quick and easy.

  • 3 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 T. sugar
  • 1 T yeast
  • 1 1/2 c. warm water

Mix the above ingredients and let rise for 10 minutes. Roll out to 1/2 inch thick and cut into strips with a pizza cutter. Melt 1 stick of butter and dip the strips of dough, place on a cookie sheet and sprinkle with parmesan cheese or Cinnamon & Sugar. Let rise for 10 minutes and then bake @ 350 for 20 minutes.

Bella

Bella has been such a fun dog to have in our home. She has been taught to sit, lay, shake, speak and dance. We are still working on her staying in the yard and not running off but we’ll get there. She hasn’t gotten Dad’s liking, maybe someday. The rest of us love her though.

Derick's Patriarchal Blessing

Derick made the choice to receive his Patriarchal Blessing a little while ago and today was the day the he was able to receive it. Our wonderful friend, Patriarch Craig Jones, was able to be the one to give Derick his blessing. When Kirk and I were first married we lived behind Craig and Bonnie Jones in a little house for about four years. Derick was almost two when we moved from there. They are very dear to us so it was extra special to have Craig give Derick his blessing.

Ward Halloween Party

Our annual Ward Halloween Party is always a hit. We fill our tummies with Chili and fresh made scones & honey butter. The Young Men and Young Women put on a mini carnival for the kiddos and then we go out to the parking lot for "Trunk Or Treat". Always lots of fun and plenty of treats.

Halloween part III

First Snow

Our first snow came October 27, 2009. I always enjoy the first snowfall of the season. It's always so peaceful outside when it's snowing. I love that we live somewhere where we can enjoy all four seasons. I do however hate the fact that I can't wear my Crocs anymore. They don't do very well if I have to walk through any water. I also don't care for the days during winter where it's just plain cold and there is no snow. I would rather have 3 ft of snow then no snow at all and COLD.

Halloween Part II

We did pretty good this year for Halloween. Kaitlin was able to re-use my costume from last year. Doesn't she make the cutest scarecrow? I'm not sure she would be very successful at scaring all the crows away.

Halloween Part I

Tyler was very innovative with his costume this year. He came up with it all by his self and the only thing we had to purchase was a $1.99 bottle of red hair spray. He had such good luck he went to the SUU Trunk or Treat and was selected as the scariest costume so he got to go out onto the football field during the halftime show and show off his costume. Then he won a cake during the cake walk at our ward Halloween party.

Gus, Gus

We have mice in our house. Enough that they can get really creepy, I used to give them names so that they didn't seem so bad, but lately I've been getting really tired of them. So off to the store to get some mouse traps. I got the basic spring loaded traps and was told that peanut butter was the best bait to use, so I loaded 8 traps with peanut butter. After strategically placing all of the traps, I go to check to see if we've caught any and all I find is traps with no peanutbutter left. Stupid, or smart, mice. So off to the store to get something different. Tyler and I find these traps.
We caught 3 the first day. The only problem is that it doesn't kill them so we put them in a bread bag and then WHACK them on the sidewalk to kill them. I know that might seem horrible to some of you but I think that the mice are dirty, creepy things. Last night there was one in my bedside garbage can keeping me awake, I figure if they can get in the garbage can, they can crawl on my bed while I'm sleeping. It's so embarrassing when we have people over and I can hear them squeaking, I always hope that they either don't hear them or else think that we still have our Guinea Pig. So here I am, on a quest to kill all the mice around.

Crazy Hair Day

During red ribbon week, the kids have themes every day of the week. This day was "Crazy Hair" day, which is always one of the funnest. Kaitlin looks like a WHO from WHOVILLE.
