Happy Birthday Grandma Evers

2011 Happy Birthday Grandma Evers 89

I taught a lesson to the YW in Relief on strengthening extended family relationships. One of the stories that I read was about a girl who wrote a letter to her Grandma telling her of all her favorite memories. Today is my Grandma Evers Birthday so what better time than now to write her a letter. I’m not a great writer by any means but I wanted to let my grandma know how much she means to me. Here is the letter that I sent to her.

April 12, 2011

Grandma,

Happy Birthday! I hope that you have been showered with love on this special day. I want you to know how much you mean to me. You have been such a wonderful example of “Good” to me throughout my life. I thought that I would write down some of my memories of you and me.

~I always looked forward to a new dress from you. I remember putting them on and spinning in them to see how far they would spin out. I treasure the dresses that you have made for Kaitlin.

~I loved that you would take me and Sara “Window” shopping. It amazes me that you would just let us try on everything in the store and just wait patiently, never telling us to hurry up.

~I loved hearing stories of your past. I remember loving to hear of the times that you worked with those handicapped children. Because of those stories I have a special place in my heart for handicapped children and have taught my children the same.

~I could sit for hours listening to you and your sisters tell of all your adventures to Germany/Europe. I also love that you have such a wonderful relationship with your sisters.

~You are a wonderful cook. I never will forget all the yummy things I got to eat at your table.

· Those marshmallows with rice krispies and caramel

· Potato chips with onion dip, yum!

· I could never name all of the desserts, but you always had something wonderful.

· Stain glass window cookies.

· Thanksgiving & Christmas dinners, everything about them.

· Bowls of candy sitting all over the house chocolate covered peanuts were some of my favorite.

· Grandpa getting Dunkin Donuts

· You always had stuff on hand to make a sandwich. I always love the cheese with the red wax on it, very fancy.

· You always had ice cream in your freezer.

· I always liked how you would pour chips into a bowl instead of leaving them in the bag.

· This list could go on and on and on.

~I could spend hours going through your button box with Lori.

~Your towels were always extra soft. I always loved taking a bath in your tubs.

~I loved sleeping in the purple room there in Longmont. I remember you reading me bedtime stories out of those old books.

~I will always treasure the many gifts that you have made me and my family. I know the many hours you must have spent on each of them. Thank you!!!!

~I remember getting my first “perm” staying with you. After I got my perm and while you were getting your hair done I kept looking at my reflection in the Hair Drying chairs. I couldn’t believe how curly my hair was.

~I loved looking through your drawers in the bathroom and your craft room. You had the coolest combs and sooo many craft and sewing things.

~I loved your “Terrariums” I may not remember digging in them behind my back, but it do remember spending hours looking at them and imagining.

~I remember that you had one of those sprinklers that went back and forth like a waterfall. You were the coolest ever! I had my first color TV experience at your house.

~I will never forget the year you got me those “See Through” bikini underwear.

~I loved painting ceramics with you.

~Going to your church for the Christmas Program.

~Picnics with you were always the best, Fried chicken, potato salad, rolls………& of course Family.

~I’ve never figured out how you can go to bed and wake up and have perfect hair. I don’t know how you do it!

~I thought I felt pretty important when I stayed with you to “Take Care” of you after Grandma BB died.

~….and I can never forget the hours you have spent on the piano so that we could sing with you.

· Yes, we have no Bananas

· Daddy sings bass, Momma sings tenor…

· How much is that doggie in the window Bark, Bark

· Puff the magic dragon

· He’s got the whole world in his hand..

Thank you for raising my Dad to be such a wonderful person. Thank you for coming to Kaitlin’s blessing. That meant the world to me. Thank you for all that you have taught me. By your example, I want to be like you. Thank you for asking us to pray in your home.

I love you Grandma and I’m so grateful to have you in my life and that my Children have been able to know you and call you their GG.

Happy Birthday!!!

I love you,

Heidi, Your “Dolly”

Throwing Eggs at the Bridge!!!

2003 Throwing eggs at the Bridge with sister ballardWe were staying in Leamington and Sister Ballard call and asked us if we wanted to go throw eggs at the bridge.  WHAT?   Sure, that sounds like fun.  So we gathered a bunch of eggs and met at the bridge.  We brought spoons to have spoon races and then just had a blast throwing them at the bridge.  Sooooo much fun!

Go Grizzlies!

2011 Grizzlies Hockey Game

When the Youth from our ward went to the BYU basketball game, the Deacons weren’t able to go because the were attending a Pow Wow.  So their leader Brother Kent said that if they would do the Pow Wow, that he would take them to a Hockey game.  So Tyler and Kirk went to watch the Grizzlies.  They had a great time.

Tyler is thirTEEN!

2011 Tyler bday 13

Tyler choose to go to Boondocks for his 13th birthday this year.  He invited his good friend Tolby to come with him. They  had a blast riding the go carts, playing lazertag and the arcade games.  He’s pretty proud of the fact that he is no longer a “Tweener” , but officiall a “TEEN”.

Photography 101

2011 Photography 101

My sister and I taught a Digital Scrapbooking class for her ward and then afterwards there was a photographer there to teach us how to use our cameras better.  I learned about aperture, shutter speed, white balance, and ISO.  There were a couple of Seniors from their ward that modeled for us.  I still need to practice A LOT to get everything I learned down.  But it was a start.

Santa:  “What is it that you want for Christmas”

Tyler:  “I want a pogo stick, if you can find springs”2002 Christmas

I just love the wonder and excitement of Christmas.  Traditions of reading the Nativity, singing your favorite Christmas carols and the anticipation of opening gifts.

Can you tell that Tyler is into anything that keeps him moving.  This year he got a mitt and a bating stand, a skateboard, and Santa was able to find springs and bring him a pogo stick.

Scrapbooking Retreat #1

2011 January Digital Scrapbooking Retreat

My sister Lori and I planned and put together a Digital Scrapbooking retreat this past January.  It was so much fun.  We had ladies from, Idaho, Washington, and Colorado plus here in Utah come.  We taught, had workshops on photo printing, journaling and photography and had a blast doing Speed Scraps, Bingo, and other challenges throughout the two days.  We look forward to many more retreats.

It was so much fun to see 3 of our Creative Team members.  Amy came from Washington,  Sherri, came from Colorado and Brooke is from here in Utah.  They design with the kits that we design so that we can show people the versatility.

Bona Voce Valentine Dinner

2011 Bona Voce Valentines Dinner and music

Derick is in an advanced singing group called, Bona Voce.  They did a fundraiser for Valentines Day and we were able to enjoy a nice dinner and entertainment.  Derick, did a great job.  He did a solo to the song “Somebody”  from the show Glee.  I didn’t know he could sing that high.  I was a fun night.

Derick’s Baptism Day

2002 Derick's BaptismDerick was Baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints, on November 30, 2002.
Grandpa Marchant gave a talk on being baptized, he gave all the kids that were being baptized a Key. Which represented that being baptized was one of the keys to returning back home to our Heavenly Father.  Grandma Marchant gave a talk on, receiving the Holy Ghost.  She made Derick a white blanket which represented the Gift of the Holy Ghost and how we can feel warm when we listen and feel the Holy Ghost.   Uncle Doug and Uncle Chad sang, “I am a child of God” and Derick sang, “I want to be a missionary now.”
What a wonderful day it was for Derick to be baptized by Kirk, and to have family and friends there.2002 Derick's Baptism 2

Valentines Day FHE and cookies

2011 Valentines Day

Kaitlin did our Family Home Evening lesson tonight.  Which happened to be on Valentines day.  She did a great lesson on showing love for others.  And then she broke out her cake decorating supplies and we decorated Grandma Marchant’s Sugar cookies.  Delicious!

Valentines Day Dinner, Courtesy of my Mom

2011Valentines Dinner

I did this layout as part of February’s Quote challenge.  When I read the quote, “If there is anything better than to be loved, it is loving.”  I thought of my Mom and her selfless acts of service.  My Mom is the perfect example of “Loving”.  Always giving of herself.  Thanks, Mom For the wonderful Valentine Dinner.
